Bruno Fernandes is a Better Player Than me-Paul Scholes
Former Manchester United and England midfielder, Paul Scholes says Bruno Fernandes is a better player compared to him.
Bruno Fernandes joined Manchester United from Sporting CP (FC Porto) in January 2020 and has been a valuable addition to Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s squad ever since. He is likely the most important player in the club since joining and arguably the best midfielder in the world right now.
Former Man United midfield Maestro, Paul Scholes admits that the Portuguese international is superior due to his instant impact at Old Trafford.
“He’s [Bruno Fernandes] better than me. He’s different to me. He scores more goals than me. He also creates more goals than me,” Paul Scholes said.
The former Man United star adds that he would have loved to play with Bruno Fernandes.
I would like to play with Bruno-Scholes
“I’d like to play with him, probably behind him would be alright. But no, he’s been sensational, a big difference,” he added.
Scholes also added that Manchester United are now creating chances and scoring goals courtesy of Bruno Fernandes, something they were formerly struggling with.
Paul added that “I think before he [Bruno Fernandes] came to the team, Manchester United could hardly create a chance with some of the stuff they were playing. But now they look like they can score three, four or five goals every game.”
Paul Scholes was a Man United star in the 1990s and 2000s. He won 11 Premier League titles, three FA Cups and two Champions Leagues under Sir Alex Fergusson, but he feels Bruno, a midfielder described as having an ex-factor by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, is a superior player.
Fernandes has scored 14 goals and assisted 8 times in all competitions for Man Utd. He also makes it in the list of players with the most played minutes in Europe and when asked about it, he said that “I’m not happy. I need to say this to the coach: ‘I want to be the first one!’
It’s not Paul Scholes alone that sees Fernandes as an important player. His teammate, new signing, Alex Telles also hailed the 26 year old for being exceptional on and off the pitch.
Alex Telles on Fernandes
“Bruno Fernandes is a very strong man in our dressing room, in the way he deals with each player. He has a leadership position, really and always helping with his position and that of his teammates.
He helped me a lot in my adaptation here, as did Fred. It is a great honour and pride to have a teammate like Bruno Fernandes.
Bruno, Fred and I are always playing, and that’s a good thing because we take this friendship to the pitch,” Telles said.
Scholes on Manchester United title challenge this season;
“If people think Manchester City are in the mix, you have to think we’re in and around it.” We possibly need to improve because Liverpool have set such a high standard.
We’ve already lost three games – I think the last two winners of the league have lost three and four games.” We’re 14 games in and we’re going to have to go on some run, there’s no doubt about that. I think if Ole can keep his best 12, 13, 14 players fit, I think we’ll have a chance,” he said.
Manchester United travel to Wolves on Tuesday and they are looking forward to sealing a win that will keep their title challenge dream alive.
