The two-time Olympic gold medallist, Eliud Kipchoge, is set to lead the country for another round of gold hunting at the Olympic Games set to be held from 26th July to August 11th, 2024 in Paris. Peres Jepchirchir is set to lead the women.
Eliud, who turns 40 this year, suffered a blow in his preparations for the Olympic preparations as he finished a distant 10th in the Tokyo Marathon held on March 3.
Helen Obiri, the two-time Boston Marathon winner, Brigid Kosgei, the two-time London Marathon winner, and Sharon Lokedi, the 2022 New York Marathon champ will complete the women’s squad.
The National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOCK) and Athletics Kenya (AK) on May 1st named the final Olympian squad. This includes Benson Kipruto, Alex Munyao, London Marathon winner, and reserve Timothy Kiplagat.
“When we step onto the streets of Paris, it won’t just be as individuals, but as a formidable team united by our shared pursuit of greatness, this is not world major marathons, it is Olympic Games, so we are going as one team, not as individuals,” Kipchoge told Flashscore News after being named in the squad.
The Nike and Isuzu Kenya brand ambassador is training with the team as they prepare for a takeover. He has not suffered any injuries thus far and is in his best form yet. We wish them the best in their bid to represent the country.
