Former President of the United States Barrack Obama has congratulated Joe Biden and Kamala Harris after they were declared winners of the 2020 US elections.
Democrat Joe Biden and Kamala Harris beat incumbent President and Republican’s Donald Trump to emerge the winners of this year’s elections.
This is after close to a week of waiting for vote counting across different American states. It’s Pennsylvania states that delivered Biden’s presidency over Trump after he won 20 college votes. He won with 284 college votes over Trump’s 214.
The long wait is now over and Americans and the whole world knows who is the next president of the US. Biden is now the 46th President of the United States and arguably the most powerful man on the planet.
Millions of people have sent messages of congratulations to the president-elect and vice-president-elect. Former President Barrack Obama was not left behind as he wished Biden all the best as the next president.
In an official statement, Obama congratulated his former Vice President and Kamala Harris for their achievement.
“I could not be prouder to congratulate our next President, Joe Biden, and our next First Lady, Jill Biden. I also couldn’t be prouder to congratulate Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff for Kamala’s groundbreaking election as our next Vice President,” the statement said.
Barrack Obama noted the fact Americans had defied all the odd circumstances to come out in large numbers to vote for Biden and Harris.
It will be more challenging
He also acknowledged that Biden will have to face a lot of challenges as the 46th President of America.
“We’re fortunate that Joe’s got what it takes to be President and already carries himself that way. Because when he walks into the White House in January, he’ll face a series of extraordinary challenges no incoming President ever has. A raging pandemic, an unequal economy and justice system, a democracy at risk, and a climate in peril,” he added.
Barrack, the first black president of the United States of America has urged Americans to support him fully for a chance to deliver. This is because he says the country is much divided.
“So I encourage every American to give him a chance and lend him your support. The election results at every level show that the country remains deeply and bitterly divided.
It will be up to not just Joe and Kamala, but each of us, to do our part – to reach out beyond our comfort zone, to listen to others, to lower the temperature and find some common ground from which to move forward, all of us remembering that we are one nation, under God,” his statement further read.
