The controversial journalist Scophine Aoko Otieno, alias Maverick Aoko Otieno, has been untraceable since October 22nd. This incident sent shock waves among her followers and family who have been vocal about the issue.
For the first time since she went missing for weeks on end, she has finally broken her silence.
In a statement on her official X account, on November 9th, Aoko clarified that her aide is who has been posting on the account. She added that the said aide has her unreserved permission plus that of her family to air opinions and statements on her behalf.
She urged her followers to stay calm as she is doing well under the care of her family. Aoko thanked Kenyans for their unwavering support.
“Your clamor, fervor, noise, agitation and prayers kept air in my lungs and blood in my heart. Asante for every tweet, retweet, call, concern, msg and voice that spoke out for me..”
“The flesh is indisposed, thanks to their ‘hata sisi tunajua kusalimiana.’ Grateful that I am getting adequate care,” Aoko remarked.
Her Location Remains a Mystery
The political blogger, however, remained sketchy entailing her disappearance but gave a promise to spill the beans once the dust settles and she’s much better.
“What happened? I will tell you, oh I will expose every minute detail, every crumb… But we will converse more dear friends when I get better,” Aoko stated.
Babu Owino Confirms The News
Current Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, confirmed the news that she was indeed well corroborating Aoko’s aide. The assistant had earlier tweeted that she was found at the Kenya-Tanzania border.
“She’s been found at the Kenyan-Tanzania border. Her family was called from a hospital. She was taken there by an unidentified person who said they found her outside their gate,” read a post by the aide.
Babu Is a Trusted Friend
Aoko also confirmed that Babu Owino is familiar with the aide adding that the lawmaker is a trusted friend.
“Babu knows of this aide and has met them in person too. I comprehend your misgivings on politicians, Lord knows I’ve had my extreme share of unpalatable experiences with them.
“Albeit, take it from me, Ongili (Babu Owino) is a trusted friend who has proven his camaraderie interminably through bloom and gloom,” she stated.
Aoko is known to expose members of the political elite and has had brash moments with the law, which haven’t touched her zeal. She went missing after sending a train of tweets against the president and his circle of power.
Where Is The Real Aoko?
Her Twitter has been active but many users are still speculating whether it’s really Aoko behind the screen. In her last tweet, on 12th November, she was viciously attacking a user who claimed her guts were gone and she was no longer serving “tea”. In her comeback tweet, she claimed to still be in hospital after her release and added that she doesn’t owe anyone “tea” and that her followers should be grateful as she risks her life for it.
The replies from her avid followers were still tagged #FreeAoko. It is yet to be seen or confirmed if she’s still in hiding and whether she’s safe and sound, physically and mentally.
