DP Gachagua Impeachment Motion Filed by Mungatana

Tana River Senator, Danson Mungatana, has filed a censure motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The motion was filed at the office of the Speaker of the Senate early Monday.

He alleges the DP has engaged in divisive politics and betrayed his oath of office among others.

A censure motion is a debate to show strong disapproval against the conduct of a state officer. It’s not an impeachment motion.

“Article 260 of the constitution of Kenya categorizes the deputy president as a state officer whose conduct and behavior shall abide by the provisions of article 75 of the constitution of Kenya and the general leadership and integrity code for state officers, contained in the leadership Act,”  submitted Mungatana.

Gachagua’s Woes Deepen

The DP has been facing growing isolation for a while now amid loud rumors of an alleged impeachment motion.

This has served to further alienate him in the government and cabinet. His last kicks of a dying horse have caused him to fight back. He has retreated to his homeyard through public rallies and secret meetings.

“They say that I’m high-headed, that I’m too people-centered, and that I listen to people too much. That I’m asking people to listen to what Kenyans are saying. I don’t think it is a crime,” he said during the interview.

Gachagua maintained that he has the responsibility to tell the people about the goings-on in government.

During an interview on Citizen TV on Friday, he lamented about being humiliated by ‘Ruto’s men’ and the president remaining mum about it.

Gachagua and William Ruto have reportedly not seen eye-to-eye for a while now.

Latest reports indicate that the DP was removed from President Ruto’s diary WhatsApp group. Some of his staff have also been removed creating confusion. He has lamented on the issue and explained how it has made it difficult to work efficiently and in faith with his boss.

Coming to the defense of the President, Dennis Itumbi, clarified that the said group was deleted and no one was removed. This is after highly classified documents were shared with other groups.

Other Government Leaders Clash

National Assembly majority leader, Kimani Ichung’wa, dismissed any claims of an impeachment motion against Gachagua. He stated that no MP has attempted to collect signatures for such a motion.

Among these utterances, Mungatana added, include matters on employment opportunities in the public service. Others include allocation of resources to the devolved units, and incitement if a section of Kenyans disobeys lawful directives by some county governments.

Environment and Forestry CS, Aden Duale, has told off Senator Danson Mungatana over his censure motion against the Deputy President.

In a statement on X, on Monday, Duale said any censure motion against the DP can only originate from the National Assembly.
