Omanyala is back to his winning ways. Ferdinand came second to Christian Coleman at the 100m Diamond League Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon on Saturday (25 May). USA’s Brandon Hicklin came in third in 10.08 as Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake closed the top four in 10.12.
Coleman, the 2019 World Champion, maintained his fast start with Ferdinand Omanyala trying to keep up with his pace. He almost cut his lead in the final 20m, but Coleman outwitted him somehow. Christian won in 9.95. Omanyala however managed a season’s best of 9.98.
Beatrice Chebet finished the 10,000m in 28.54.14 at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon on Saturday (25 May). The two-time world 5000m medallist, got better of Tsegay who earned her new personal best of 29:05.9. That makes it the third-fastest time in history. Lillian Rengeruk came in third. Another Kenyan Margaret Kipkemboi, came in fourth.
In the men’s 10,000m, Daniel Mateiko beat his fellow Kenyans Nicholas Kimeli and Bernard Kibet who came in second and third respectively. This automatically qualifies him for a maiden appearance at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Mateiko was elated after a couple of failed attempts. The latest one was in London where he ran a personal best of 26:50.81. This was also the fastest time in the world this year.
