Youth from Isiolo have all the reasons to be happy as KFCB Boss Ezekiel Mutua leads a signatory launch of a talent-based training in the county.
Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) together with Kenya School of Government (KSG) have signed a Memorandum of Association (MOU) to launch the curriculum at Isiolo Youth Empowerment Center in Isiolo County.
According to KFCB Boss, Ezekiel Mutua, the special training aim is to give an opportunity to youths in Isiolo to enhance their skills for self-employment and also to find opportunities in the creative market.
“KFCB and @KSGKenya have signed an MOU to launch a Special Curriculum that is talent-based to give an opportunity to youths in Isiolo to enhance their skills for self-employment and also to find opportunities in the competitive media and creative arts sectors,” he wrote on his Twitter timeline.
The training program, which will be online, is set to begin in January 2021 and will be fully sponsored by KFCB and executed via Kenya School of Government.
Training Period
“The training program will entail a six-month online course and three-months practicals in which the trainees will be expected to produce works of art based on their areas of interest, talent and expertise,’ Mutua added.
The KFCB Boss also revealed that beneficiaries will be selected based on their talents and passion as they intend to encourage talented youths from the grassroots to pursue their creativity for wealth and job creation instead of condemning them to misery because they are not gifted in academics.
“Selection of students for this program is not necessarily based on academics but their talents and passion,” the Kenyan Moral Police said emphasizing the fact that this is a talent-based training.
“The creative economy is a major frontier of job creation and with COVID-19 pandemic necessitating a shift to increased use of technology for business, this curriculum will be a game changer,” he said explaining the need to adapt to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic situation.
To explain further, he said that the idea behind digitizing the training was to “leverage on technology to conduct the classes to enhance the ability of the students to do business online”.
The launch had started in the year 2018 as a result of a collaboration where several initiatives meant to empower the youths in the County were unveiled leading to the launch of Youth Empowerment Centre in Isiolo County last month.
Dr Mutua adds that the program will not only focus on the creative training aspect but also mentor the youths to be responsible and avoid the temptation of getting into crimes such as illegal drugs.
