Fiery social media influencer Maverick Aoko, known for her explicit posts and comeback replies, has allegedly missing for several days now. Social media users and fans are raising concerns about her whereabouts when abduction cases are on the rise.
Her Silence is Too Loud
Ms Aoko, who’s also a fierce government critic, often posts many times a day but her page has gone silent. Her last update was on October 22nd, and she was asking for God’s protection. She made a comment to suggest that her situation is more dire perceived.
Following the post, Aoko’s close circle has been increasingly worried about her safety and protection. As her silence persists, her location has remained discreet and her fans are unsure how to interpret her absence. Her situation continues to leave family and friends on edge, who have asked everyone to stay vigilant and keep pressuring the government to help find her.
Circumstances That Raised Alarm
Aoko’s aide says she has been putting up with her family in the countryside since her August arrest. Her appearances in Nairobi were only for meetings and court appearances.
In August, Aoko was brought before the judge at Milimani Court for alleged cyber harassment and the fraudulent use of electronic data.
Two weeks ago, her front door, in her Nairobi home, was forcibly damaged, a discovery that shook her and made her blow the whistle.
According to her aide, Aoko made contact and asked them to document the scene and vacate the place immediately. She said she wanted to lay low for a while by keeping her presence in Nairobi discreet.
The aide revealed that Aoko suspects a prominent political figure, which her assistant believes led her to go off the grid.
The caretaker and watchman have also reported seeing suspicious people around her home.
Justice For Aoko
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has taken up the issue to call for her immediate release. Faith Odhiambo, who is the society president, urged anyone with any information regarding her to come forward.
Embakasi East Member of the National Assembly (MP) Babu Owino, who is a close confidant of Ms Aoko, expressed his concerns on Monday at Elon Musk’s owned platform.
Ms Aoko’s disappearance news has sparked a debate among Kenyans who feel she may be a victim of the abduction by government operatives. Activists and social media commentators who are active citizens have been missing, given the same case of Boniface Mwangi.
