It’s Origins
The Met Gala is an annual fundraising gala held for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan. It’s one of the world’s most glamorous fashion events in tje world.
It is a social gathering and is known as “fashion’s biggest night”; an invitation is highly sought after. It happens on the first Monday of May each year.
Its VVIP guests and attendees are personalities and celebrities perceived to be culturally relevant to the contemporary or pop world. It includes fashion stars, film & TV personalities, musicians, actors and actresses, business moguls, athletes, social media influencers, and politicians.
Organisers of Met Gala
Its organizers are the fashion magazine Vogue. The entry price for one ticket has risen to US$75,000 in 2024, from $50,000 in 2023, to attend the annual gala in New York.
This Year’s Theme
The 2025 Met Gala took place last night, on Monday, May 6, in New York City at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. It celebrated the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” and the dress code was “garden of our time.
” We saw an endless display of floral and botanical looks on the red carpet from seasoned designers like Prada, Marson Margiela, Burberry, Alexander McQueen, and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Hosts and performers
What happens in the Met Gala is top secret. There is a no-phone (no social media) policy that attendees must abide by. However, there are over 250 collections outsourced from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection exhibited at the event.
What’s more, the guests then sit down for a dinner ball. This year’s performer was Ariana Grande who delivered an epic performance with a special performance from Cynthia Erivo. She performed hit singles from “7 Rings” to “We Can’t Be Friends ” to “When You Believe” a duet with Cynthia.
Equally important, this year’s event raised more than $26 million, a record sum for the party that has become an annual gathering for mega-celebrities in fashion, film, TV, sports, music, business, and more, the museum said. The annual fundraising gala benefits the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City.
The next event will be on May 5th, 2025.
