After reggae hype-woman and media personality, Njambi Koikai, passed on June 4th, his father, Ambassador Daniel Koikai, has also been found dead.
He was found this morning, at his home, which happened to be the day of her daughter’s burial. This comes hours after he paid a moving tribute to Njambi, at her memorial service, held at Nairobi Chapel.
In the tribute, he revealed that he regrets not being a present father during his Njambi’s long-life battle with endometriosis. He shared a long emotional tribute, asking for forgiveness, albeit late.
After he was conspicuously missing at his daughter’s funeral, Kenyans immediately took notice and took to social media for answers. Njambi was laid to rest today, June 14th, at Langata Cemeteries.
Anonymous family sources revealed that the two were not on good terms. However, he visited Njambi together with her mother at the hospital on the fateful night she passed on.
The father of the late entertainer confessed his parental shortcomings at the memorial mass. He admitted to having failed his daughter many times and regrets not enjoying each other’s company. It was only when she was in high school that they had the opportunity to reconnect. Despite not being close, he was a responsible father who provided for her education and supported her causes severally.
“A time has come for me to atone for my acts of omission and commission. It has been one of the most difficult episodes in my life, especially for your close family, your mum, sisters, aunts, uncles, colleagues in the media, and friends in and out of the country,” he expressed in deep regret.
Details of his death remain scanty but trusted sources point to a self-inflicted death.
Jahmby Koikai was a beloved figure in Kenya’s entertainment industry, she has been buried as the legend she was. Messages of tribute and condolences are still pouring in. Her longstanding battle with endometriosis inspired her to raise awareness and advocate for women’s health.
Her stellar work ethic and resilience saw he work at Metro FM, KBC (2008- 2012), and the Nation Media in 2012. Interestingly, Njambi happened to be Sauti Sol’s first-ever manager when they were still looking for their local breakthrough.
Njambi Koikai’s father’s body has been taken for preservation. Details of his burial arrangements are underway.
