As the dust is settling down on the months-long anti-government protests, President Ruto submitted his final batch of CSs for vetting yesterday, Wednesday, 24th July. This also comes weeks after he sacked his entire cabinet save from Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi, on July 11th.
Last week, Ruto named the first batch of the nominees including the Attorney General. However, a few days later, he switched Adan Duale to the Environment ministry from Defence and replaced him with Soipan Tuya.

Ministers Not Reinstated
In this new political move, Ruto is careful in maintaining those he considers resourceful in his unfolding game plan, to tame the constant uprisings against his government. Many of them were also implicated in mega-corruption scandals that further tainted his administration. We are yet to see if these Kenya Kwanza allies and immediate former Ministers will be deployed in other state agencies.

What’s The Way Forward?
Gen Zs, the young vocal protesters, behind the weeks of demonstrations that began with the Finance Bill, have already made their disappointment with a unity government known. According to them, Ruto’s act of including Raila Odinga’s allies in the Cabinet, yet he’s the official leader of the opposition, is a ploy to subdue any dissenting voices left in the country.
The President has promised to hold dialogue across the board and consult, but no one saw anything coming. The rivals are now enjoying perks on the same table while Kenyans have been left to wonder. Coalition allies of Odinga’s party had also said last that they would not participate in a unity government.
