Former Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha passed away on Tuesday 24th January at Nairobi Hospital aged 71.
According to Prof. Mwanda, a close friend of the late Prof. Magoha, the former CS knew his time was up. Speaking live on TV, Professor Mwenda revealed that Prof. Magoha collapsed a total of 4 times before he breathed his last.
The report from The Nairobi Hospital reveals the cause of his death as cardiac arrest. He was reportedly rushed to the hospital today after falling ill.
His wife, Dr. Barbra Magoha also confirmed the report.
“Yes, it is true he is no more,” she told a leading Kenyan newspaper.
Prof. Magoha was known to be a no-nonsense CS during his time at the helm of the Ministry of Education.
He served as the Cabinet Secretary of Education in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s second term of government effective March 2019.
During his tenure, the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) was anchored and is now in good progress to fully taking off.
Millions of Kenyans have mourned the former CS, a Surgeon by profession led by President William Ruto.
President Ruto described Prof Magoha as a unique, gifted, and great servant of Kenya, adding that he feels privileged to have known and worked with him in the former administration.

“Prof Magoha is a towering giant of our time, a great man who stood tall in the academy, where he excelled in learning, teaching, and research, as well as in administration,” the President said in a statement.
Prof. Magoha’s full name is George Albert Omore Magoha. He was born on July 2, 1952, in Nyanza, Kenya.
Before his passing on, Professor Magoha served as a consultant Surgeon and was a professor of surgery at Maseno University School of Medicine until his last.
When will Prof George Magoha be buried? His funeral proceeds are underway, and there are indications that he will be laid to rest at his Siaya home on February 11.
