President Ruto joined other world leaders in congratulating Donald Trump on his election win, through a statement on his official page. Ruto extended an early congratulatory message to the president-elect to seek early allegiance with the world’s economic superpower.
Trump garnered over 270 electoral college votes to be declared a winner on Wednesday, earning him another term after his 2021 loss. He’s also on course to win the popular vote, though vote counting is still underway. This would make him the first Republican to achieve this feat since George W. Bush in 2004.
The Kenyan President considered the victory as a firm resolve by the American people in his visionary, bold, and innovative leadership.
“On behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of Kenya and on my own behalf, I convey my warmest congratulations on your election as the 47th President of the United States of America,” he said.
Kenya and USA Share 60 Years
“Kenya values its longstanding partnership with the United States spanning over 60 years grounded in our shared values of democracy, development, and mutual respect,” he said.
“We look forward to deepening our collaboration under your leadership as we work together to address global challenges, promote peace and security, and foster inclusive economic growth for the benefit of our peoples.”
“On behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of Kenya and my behalf, I convey to Your Excellency, my warmest congratulations on your election as the 47th President of the United States of America,” read part of the statement from President Ruto.
Trump’s Plan For Africa
The new Trump administration is yet to lay out its bilateral initiatives for Kenya and Africa at large. Critics are keen on how his administration will deepen trade relations and foster economic growth in the fast-growing continent.
Ruto previously had established ties with former President Joe Biden, who beat Trump in 2021. Trump’s administration is known to be brash and blunt and observers are keenly watching how the two will get along.
Ruto’s May 2024, state visit to the US, made history becoming the first African leader to do so in more than 15 years.
The Trump administration (Republicans) has been infamous for having a hard stance on immigrants. Kenyan citizens, especially those residing in the USA, are keen to know their fate like the rest of third-world countries who make up the majority of the immigrants.
