Three 16-year old sisters impregnated by a man from Tana River County, giving birth to a set of twins each at a Garissa hospital.
The girls, who are expected to sit their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination in March 2021, delivered their newborns on Saturday20th November through a caesarean section, which had earlier been disapproved by doctors in several hospitals.
According to their mother, doctors had disapproved of the surgical operation, advising that they had to sacrifice an infant each for them to survive.
“I refused to let that happen. It was a sacrifice, and though scientifically logical, it was traditionally tragic,” the mother said.
Successful Operation
After a three-day search for alternative, together with her children, the single mother of five decided to seek help at a private hospital where the operation was successful.
However, the firstborn of the three, who was carrying triplets, had no choice but to sacrifice one infant. This is according to a doctor’s advise that it posed danger to the young mother.
“They had slim chances of survival, and that is why we looked for a specialist. But for the girl with the triplets to come out alive, we had to agree with the mother to choose between her daughter and the third infant,” said the doctor who sought anonymity.
In an interview with the Nation, the girls recounted how the man responsible bolted right after they confessed to him that they were all pregnant.
The girls say they didn’t know the man was having an affair with both of them since they rarely share each other’s secrets.
“We did not know he was having an affair with all of us since we didn’t share that bit of our lives,” said one of the girls.
The man, who worked in the home as a gardener would lure them into the farm where he defiled them. One of them even confessed to having been sneaking to his room to meet him.
“He used to give me pocket money and would sometimes buy me clothes. He was so nice to me. I did not know he was doing the same to my sisters,” one of them said.
Funny Underwears
Their mother says she did not notice anything fishy except with the last born who had news set of shoes and “funny undergarments” which she couldn’t recall buying for her.
“I noticed some funny set of underwear which caught my attention. But she kept saying she had bought them with her pocket money. What I did not understand was why she chose that funny type of underwear,” she said.
Astonishingly, the mother never suspected anything was going on until she accidentally bumped into a message on one of her daughter’s phones informing the man that she was three weeks pregnant.
In the phone conversion, the two were planning to abort and all plans were set to take place two days later.
“Surprisingly, they all knew they were pregnant and were planning an abortion. When I ambushed them the following day at dawn for a pregnancy test, one of them sneaked away, and the remaining two confessed they were pregnant,” the mother narrated.
By this time, the man had been missing for two days and a search was mounted to try and apprehend him.
The case was reported to police who have been looking for the culprit without success. However, the search is still on and the police have urged locals to help by providing information that could lead to his arrest.
