The Governor of Machakos County Dr. Alfred Mutua has asked the relevant authorities not to mistreat Mike Sonko.
The former Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko was earlier arrested and later moved to Kamiti Maximum Prison and again back to Gigiri Police Station awaiting charges related to terrorism.
Earlier, one of Sonko’s lawyers, Assa Nyakundi, said he was on Wednesday evening heading to Kamiti where they were informed Sonko was scheduled to face terrorism-related charges.
As Sonko continues to wait for his fate behind bars, his former Machakos County Boss has requested his proper handling according to the law.
Mutua said that despite Sonko’s long-time misbehavior, he was still rewarded by the state and electorates hence he deserves rightful treatment.
“Sonko was misled to think he could get away with everything. He has been behaving the same way for a period of time & was rewarded not only by the State but also by the voters. But he is innocent until proven guilty. He should not be mistreated,” said Mutua in an interview with Citizen TV.
The embattled former Nairobi County Boss’s charges are related to confessions he made. In a rally, he admitted having sponsored unlawful activities during the 2017 election period.
He alleged that he, Interior PS Karanja Kibicho, and the state bought second-hand cars and pretending to be NASA supporters burned them to paint them as violent.
It was the PS who later moved on to sue him where he was later arrested and detained.
