The National Paris Kit Unveiled
The official Kenya’s ceremonial kit for the Paris 2024 Olympics was unveiled on Friday at StateHouse. The kit has been met with mixed reactions from Kenyans on social media with many being skeptical of the designs and terming them as underwhelming.
The kit, which every national team will don at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics, was expected to showcase the best of each country’s style, culture, and heritage. Many Kenyans wanted more out of the outfits and were curious about whoever the designer was.
The three designs were unveiled, red and black as the dominant colors but the color infusions were what got Kenyans talking. President William Ruto, however, had a different perspective and was among those who lauded the kit.
“It is not fair to buy kits when we have Kenyan creatives who can design kits and curate for our athletes,” said the President.
The ceremonial kits were the sum works of over 100 Kenyan creatives who submitted entries after the Ministry of Sports called for submissions. The winners were each to receive Ksh 300,000, Ksh 200,000, and Ksh 100,000 respectively for their effort and work.
Paris, France, will be this year’s host city for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. The games are scheduled to take place from Friday, July 26, 2024, through Sunday, August 11, 2024.
