Kenya’s Churchill Show top comedian Eddie Butita makes history as a show he wrote and directed goes live on Netflix, becoming the first Swahili comedy show on the giant live streaming platform.
Through his Facebook page, Butita broke the good news to his fans, adding that it’s a dream come true for him to be on Netflix.
“I have always wanted to be on Netflix,” he wrote. ” This year, God made it a reality.”
He said that he was approached to write the Swahili version of a show called Upshaws which he agreed.
Upshaws is an American comedy series done by Wanda Sykes and now the Swahili version is done by Butita.
“I was reached out to be the first Netflix Swahili Comedy Writer and Director, ” Eddie Butita revealed.
According to his post, the journey of his history has not been easy. He has had to endure early mornings and late nights to make it happen.
To achieve this goal, he says, he had to work with a group of talented professionals from Hiventy Africa who together made the first Swahili comedy show on Netflix a success.
The show is now streaming on Netflix, thanks to the good work of Butita.
Adding to his post, the comedian and scriptwriter said that this is a big opportunity for African comics.
“This means that African Comics have a great chance in the global market and we are ready for the world,” his post read.
