Sabina Chege: Former actress soaring high in politics 

Sabina Wanjiru Chege is a woman of many talents. Besides her glamouring political career, little is known about the current Murang’a women representative who has had an elite career before the political limelight. 

From conquering film, music, radio, TV, and now politics, here’s everything you need to know about the classy the proverbial beauty with brains.

Sabina Chege’s age and place of birth

Sabina was born on 21st August 1972 in Murang’a, Central Kenya. She is 49 years as of the year 2022. 

Education background

She went to Kinyona Primary school before joining Mugoiri Girls High school for her secondary education. She would later join the University of Nairobi for her A-level education. At the university, she studied Bachelor’s Degree in Education Studies and a Master’s Degree in Communication Studies. 

Before politics

Before joining politics, Sabina now a member of Azimio la Umoja coalition became a household name as an actress in the popular TV series, Tausi where she played Rehema’s role. 

In the early 2000s, she worked as a presenter at Kameme FM, before she quit and joined Communication Firm Space Africa as the Regional Manager and later moved to Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), where she worked as the Programs Controller. 

Video Vixen

Sabina Chege was also a video vixen. She featured in popular Benga musician, the late John De’ Mathew’s ‘Njata Yakwa’ (You are my star) song. With the video, followed speculations with claims that the two were dating, something she has since denied vehemently. 

Marriage and family

Sabina married Chege on September 7, 1996, and together they have 2 children. She is currently married to Maina Gathito, a former Kenya Dairy Board manager and Together they have one kid. 

Apart from serving as the current woman representative of Murang’a county, Sabina serves in various leadership roles. She is the current chairperson of the parliamentary committee on education among many others including her foundation Sabina Wanjiru Foundation.

According to Standard Media, Sabina Chege once tried to be a Kikuyu elder but her bid was unsuccessful after she was warned against it by ‘other’ elders unless she wanted to anger ancestral spirits that would have struck and caused her misery.
